Summary (official text)
Some 2023-2024 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with a 1.5L EcoBoost engine may exhibit an "Engine Coolant Over-Temperature" message and an illuminated MIL with DTCs P1285 and/or P1299 stored in the PCM during hard acceleration or under high load conditions. If the concern can be replicated under these conditions, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-03A > Diagnosis and Testing > Engine Temperature > Pinpoint Test DL "Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) Sensor" and repair as directed. Do not attempt to modify the orientation of the CHT sensor. If diagnostics lead to CHT replacement, inspect connector C1164 for terminal issues and replace the pigtail if necessary. If the concern persists, thoroughly perform the Engine Cooling System Flushing procedure in WSM, Section 303-03A > General Procedures. Do not use the VC1 flush additive.

When performing the fill and bleed procedure, it is important that the vacuum filling and bleeding aspect of the procedure is performed thoroughly. Not fully bleeding the cooling system can lead to air trapped in the cylinder head.

If the concern persists
